Introduction – Learn UX UI Design in 2022
When it comes to learn UX UI Design, there are three main types of learning pathways available today. Some people prefer self-learning while others choose to attend boot camps or workshops. In this post, I will explain all these options and highlight why some methods are better than others.
Method 1: Learn UX UI Design through Self-learning method
In this method, you must be very disciplined and should have the capacity to learn and understand the concepts on your own. You shouldn’t be scared of exploring the various topics, making your own learning plan and then sticking to your plan no matter what.
If you’re a person with these qualities, you can learn UX and UI design on your own. There are many free resources and free courses online made available by many platforms and institutes that want to help you learn on your own. You can pick one of these courses and begin your UX UI design education.
Method 2: Learn UX UI Design through Bootcamps or Workshops
The second method is UX design bootcamps and UI design kickstarter programs. These programs, offered by many institutes, run for one to four days. If you want to get a broad understanding of UX and UI designing, you could enroll in one of these bootcamps.
In these bootcamps (or workshops), an instructor designs an app or a project from scratch in front of the students. By watching it live, students get a glimpse of the inner workings of UX UI design and begin to understand the craft.
However, you’ll start having many questions in this process. And when you try to reproduce the project – a part of the bootcamp – it’s doubtful how much the trainer will help you or personally answer your questions – because the bootcamp is only for a few days and hundreds of people attend it.
They really can’t help you with the roadblocks you face when you take the first steps with UX UI design.
In short, you can attend these programs to gain a broad overview of UX UI design and nothing beyond that.
Method 3: Learn UX UI Design through Mentor-led programs
The third type is one that is mentor-led for a long term. In this program, you’ll work with a dedicated mentor who will help you complete your project. They will teach the UX UI design methodologies relevant to your project, provide constant reviews and feedback as you progress through the various stages of the project completion, and help you finish the project successfully. This project portfolio will become the key component of your job search. Without a solid portfolio, it’s very difficult to get a design job.
The mentor-led programs are available both online and offline
A dedicated mentor will work with you. The program duration is usually between three to four months.
If you’re someone who doesn’t want to self-learn because it has very little control, find that workshops are too limited in scope, and want someone to guide you step-by-step, you can choose the mentor-led training programs.
There are many institutes offering mentor-led programs. If you decide to join one of them, we recommend you to first verify the credentials and experience of the mentors before joining.
Conclusion
Even if you’re learning UX UI design on your own, there might be situations where you’d need some guidance to clarify certain aspects. This could be about making a certain design decision or to evaluate whether the decision you made is optimal. This is a major consideration when learning UX UI design on your own.
In the second method, if you attend a bootcamp or workshop, you’ll be developing your project along with your trainer. After the bootcamp is over, you really can’t get in touch with your trainer to get your doubts clarified or get their help to overcome the design challenges that you’re having. Moreover, if you want to try out a project independently, you’ll seriously lack the support you need.
In the third method of learning UX UI design in 2022, that is, in a mentor-led program, you’ll be learning UX UI design in a structured, guided and hands-on fashion. You can contact your mentor anytime you want and get your doubts in your projects clarified.
In summary, 2022 offers you three different ways to learn UX UI design. It’s up to you to choose the right method that suits you.
