UX Design workshop on Smart Mobility

At Aspira Design — we are conducting a one day workshop in smart mobility industry with our students. There are 2 objectives for this kind of workshops. One, it gives the industry exposure to the students and the another one we discover an unique solution in any given industry.

We are conducting a real time workshop with our students in every month and it’s part of Aspira Design’s curriculum. So that students gain the knowledge of how to conduct and participate UX workshops.

One of our student, identifying a high level problem in smart mobility industry and the problem is interesting to solve.

Problem Statement

To access the public commutation from home or office is a problem for office goers.

To get a train or bus from home is a pain. The stations are located far from home or office. Office goers should walk minimum 1km to 2kms to reach bus or railway stations and stations to office. If the office goer, reach these destinations by walk in a morning, he might get tired due to the weather conditions. He is not able to work in fresh mind.

Students writing their data points.

UX Research

For the above state problem, We ask students to conduct a user research and prepare the contextual based questions. Our students start meeting people, conduct the interview with them and collect the data points.

On the secondary research — One of our student done a comprehensive market research for the industry and note down the strength, weakness, opportunity and threat.

Couple of other students have done the competitor research from various market across the globe and document the data.

UX Workshop

On the workshop day, all the students gather at Aspira in the morning. Workshop facilitate by Rambal. He starts conducting a workshop and he begin with SWOT analysis for the product and its market. Students write the data points in Sticky note and paste it on our class room glass wall.

Once the market research data points placed in various aspects in the wall, students start representing their user research data.

Based on the user research data, we had identified 3 different users for this product. One is a office goer or daily commuter, Second is a traveler who came from other city and doesn’t know the local language, and third is a home maker, carrying a kid who visits to shopping areas like T.Nagar in chennai.

Students have done the comprehensive research for the above 3 users, and start working on the personas. Then we pause the session and have our lunch.

Solution

We begin our second session with working on a solution for the user problems. Student grouped into 3 teams and each team working for a solution for the user and present their solution in a wall.

Based on the solution, students start working on the user journey for the product and map the solution. Once the journey map is completed, students involve to create a Information Architecture and user flow for other features of the app.

Conclusion

UX workshops are always fun and learn. During the day, students were participated effectively, contribute their ideas, share their research data, perform friendly debate, brain writing method to generate ideas, and having more fun..

Students are working on the detailed case study of the App, soon we will release.
